Atlanta-based organization LaAmistad and The BIPOC Outdoor Collective are proud to partner for a special First-Time Campers Workshop on March 17, 2026, designed to introduce Latino families to the joys of camping, outdoor recreation, and conservation.
LaAmistad’s mission is to prepare Latino students and families for success through academic and life-enrichment programs. The BOC’s mission is to collaborate with outdoor organizations of color to E-RACE barriers to the outdoors. Together, this partnership creates a natural alignment, connecting families to meaningful outdoor experiences while building confidence and knowledge in a welcoming environment.
Through this collaboration, Latino families will have the opportunity to explore outdoor recreation and conservation through an immersive and fun-filled camping experience. Participants will learn essential camping skills, outdoor safety, and key conservation principles that encourage stewardship of our natural spaces.
During the March 17 workshop, the BOC events team and volunteers will host a hands-on training session focused on conservation principles, camping fundamentals, and outdoor safety. These skills will help prepare participants for an upcoming overnight camping experience on April 4–5, where LaAmistad families will join the BOC for their first campout.
While the March workshop is a closed training session, community members can still support this effort. Volunteers are welcome to assist with the April campout, and donations are appreciated to help make this experience possible for participating families.
