At the heart of the unforgettable culinary experience at our Gather for Good Awards Dinner in Charleston during SEWE was the extraordinary talent of Chef Marcus Shell. Known for his creative flair and deep respect for heritage cuisine, Chef Marcus transformed the evening into more than a meal—he told an important story through bold flavors.
Chef Marcus generously donated not only his time and expertise, but also his full creative spirit to the BIPOC Outdoor Collective for the evening. Every dish reflected his passion for connecting culture, land, and community. Drawing inspiration from traditional African American culinary staples and pairing them with wild game, he crafted a menu that honored both heritage and the outdoors.
From the first course to the final sweet and savory dessert, Chef Marcus demonstrated how ingredients sourced “from field to fire” can be elevated into an elegant and unforgettable dining experience. His thoughtful approach to flavor and presentation delighted all of our guests while reinforcing the powerful connection between food, culture, and the natural world.
Chef Marcus’s commitment to the BOC extends far beyond the kitchen. By selflessly sharing his talents with us, he helped create an evening that celebrated community, storytelling, and the mission of expanding access to outdoor spaces and experiences.
